Power BI, a business analysis service from Microsoft. I intend to do a series of tutorials on the subject so keep watching this space. You might have wondered how they do those enterprise grade dashboards that are interactive and gets updated with live data? or like me wondered how can I make such stuff? if your answer to any of those questions is yes. then you are in for a treat.

so what is Power BI?

It is a business analytics service that is used to find insights within an organization’s data. Power BI can help connect disparate data sets, transform and clean the data into a data model and create charts ,graphs or tables to provide visuals of the data. All of this can be shared with other users within the organization. It allows simple folks like me with no technical knowledge to prepare some pretty awesome reports to share with people and discover insights in their data which are otherwise hidden from the naked eye.

is it Free?

All good things comes with a price tag, but that doesn’t mean that you will need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to take this baby for a spin. They have a single user desktop version free for use. You can use it as much as you want and connect to as many data sources as you like as long as you are keeping it to your self.

If you want to share the reports you have made with people, that’s a bit tricky and that’s where the pricing is. you can get a Power BI pro license to share your reports on the cloud that other users can see, update and filter till their heart is content. If you are a big organisation and want to benefit from the enterprise advanced analytics, then you can go for an Power BI premium license.
